  • As a therapist I would love to hear what people are looking for. Could anyone out there tell me what you hope to get or expect from a therapist? Are you afraid to go to one?

    I am a marriage and family therapist who specializes in anxiety/trauma/relational therapy. I am always open and interested in hearing what people who have experienced therapy have to say as well as what others who haven't tried it have to say. Please feel free to ask me anything about what to expect from a good therapist!
  • Coping suggestions for exposure method???? Help!

    I was diagnosed with anxiety disorder when I was in seventh grade. My anxiety only manifests itself through worry that something will happen to my mom. She is a runner and I have panic attacks every time she goes for a run...worrying that she won't return or something will happen. I know it is stupid and unlikely but I can't shake it. My mom is a bit wreak less. She runs or 3 hours deep in the woods by herself without a phone. She takes risks so it's not like I am completely wrong to worry. I am almost 20 now though and am leaving for college on August (I took a gap year to try and get a hold of my sanity!). I'm going 10 hours away and I'm terrified. I'm scared I will have panic attacks and be trapped up there with no one to help me and with no one to look after my mom. I am on Zoloft and clonopin and haven't felt any results even though it's been almost 2 years since I started the meds. I have had cognitive behavioral therapy and have seen multiple therapists and psychiatrists.
    This anxiety is a constant battle. Every day I panic and worry and am controlled by this anxiety.
    I know exposure is the best cure so I am hoping that leaving and separating myself from my mom and doing WHT terrifies me will ultimately cure me but I need advice on how to get through the months that are looming ahead.
    Any suggestions?

    I've learned of this sort of Cure-All for anxiety, and anxiety related disorders called The Linden Method, has anyone tried this?

    My therapist has recommended that I try neurofeedback therapy for my anxiety. I am exciting to try something new but also nervous. Does anyone have any experience with this?

    how did you know it was time to talk to a professional? I have been self managing my anxiety. Sometimes i'm okay other times it's worse. I do feel panicky on rare occasion. Most people around don't know my anxiety problems. I just hide them as best as i can
  • How is your Anxiety Exposure going?

    I've finally gotten organized to start an anxiety exposure program, and am just wondering if anyone else out there is currently starting, or in the midst, of a similar exposure program? I've been aware of CBT methods through therapy sessions before, and have even tried "incremental exposure work" in the past. The hardest part for me is getting organized--I would spend so much time planning (i.e., thinking over and over what I should do) that I never actually started. Thankfully, I found a wonderful online site called They've really lit a fire under my exposure work because they have print versions of exposure and anxious thought sheets. I've spent the last 2 weeks recording my thoughts in their program (it's free!) and am just beginning my first exposure week. If anyone out there is in the throes of an exposure program, I'd really appreciate your insight. What keeps you motivated? Do you need organization like me, or other people to attend functions with you? I'd love to talk about exposure with any members who are on the fence about it, don't know what it is, or are succeeding at their own regimen. Thanks, and I hope all's well! :)
  • How the heck do I find a therapist? (or any medical professional that could help in general)

    I'm planning on seeing a therapist for my problems (social anxiety, not diagnosed, so that's a problem). I don't know what to look for and what's right for me, do I need a counselor, do I need a psychologist, psychiatrist? Which one is right for me? What do I look for and note when looking for one (medical professional)? And what if I was never checked and diagnosed? Am I qualified to get help from a psychologist? How do I even start omg I have so many questions I can't even write right now. What do I look for in therapists? What do i need to look for when looking at therapists profile online. Please help. Excuse this messy question. I have many symptoms of social anxiety and desperately need help of some sort. Feel free to add additional information on how you found your therapist if you got one. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Also I wanna add, I'm looking at Psychology Today therapist finder and what do I look at in there that's important?   • I'm stuck

    Lately I've been feeling stuck, like I'm not improving. I'm not getting worse either. But it seems like I've been doing better. But I'm not sure if it's because I am getting better and the working on myself is actually doing something. Or I'm only feeling like I'm doing better because the main trigger for my anxiety and depression is momentarily gone. I just don't know what to do. The working on myself is expressing my emotions and feelings more, and trying to reach out to my friends. I've been figuring out what Happens during an attack and what helps. I know myself pretty well in that area. But I want to be able to do more then just coping with it. I want it to get less. I only have no idea how

    I've tried excercise, going out, and reading only to feel emptier than ever. My anxiety is rapidly getting worse, and I'm afraid of the cynical person it is turning me into.

    I took prescribed pills for severe anxiety and depression for a year and I was okay for a while but I have come back into my same patterns. I fear of falling into another deep depression and never leaving my room again! What can I do?
