how do you get off Xanax when you been it for 5 years?

I have been on .25mg of Xanax for 5 years of generalized anxiety disorder. And it feels like it no longer works for me. I am considering trying to get off of it so I can try something new to help me since i have a lot of Anxiety issues. So I was wondering how does someone get off of Xanax when they have been taking it for so many years?

You should really talk to your doc as xanax must be left gradually, he will tell you how much to take during the process. You may fell more anxiety at the first month but you will gradually go back to normal.

I agree, talk to your doctor. Benzos should be weaned off slowly and with a lot of support. There's a great web site for people who have stopped taking them or are in the act of doing so. I recommend Benzobuddies.com
